Leaders grumble over Raila's visit to Baringo

Baringo, Kenya: The much anticipated visit by CORD leader Raila Odinga to cattle rustling prone Baringo South Constituency has stirred controversy.

Local leaders are complaining they have been left out of the planning and organising of the visit even as the organisers announced the shifting of the tour from Tuesday to Thursday without explaining the reasons behind the last minute adjustment.

Baringo County ODM Chairman Wesley Lekakimon complained that he had not been involved in his bosses visit, claiming that political activists were behind the visit. He said that he only heard about it through other people and social media outlets.

Mr Lekakimon, who is also the leader of the minority in the county assembly, said he could not understand how his office was by-passed by political brokers.

"If Raila has to come, he should involve elected leaders on the ground including the area MP. But it is ironical that the former Prime Minister has decided to plan with political brokers in Nairobi," said the minority leader.

PROPAGANDA SPREAD

But human rights activist Amos ole Mpaka accused a section of area leaders of trying to incite the residents against the ODM party leader.

Revealing that he was among those laying ground for Raila's visit, Mpaka alleged that the organisers officially informed Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim about the tour, and accused her of trying to spread unnecessary propaganda.
