Manchester United to turn down Arsenal's Smalling approach

Manchester United are set to reject a £12million offer from Arsenal for Chris Smalling, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils defender is reportedly wanted by their great rivals, following the success of Danny Welbeck since his move to the Emirates revitalised his career.

It is believed that Arsene Wenger wanted the defender last summer, but Louis van Gaal rejected the approaches then - and they are set to do the same this time around.

Smalling has seen an up-turn in form in recent weeks, which is believed to have impressed his manager.
