Murang’a residents rescue minor locked in room by parents

The public has rescued a 10-year-old boy who had been locked in a room by his parents in Gikindu location.

The boy had been detained in the two-room house in unhygienic conditions for the last three years after he was immobilised by jigger infestation.

The operation to rescue the minor was conducted by Kiharu branch of Maendeleo ya Wanawake and Ahadi Kenya Trust after the public raised alarm over the boy’s deteriorating health.

The minor’s mother said she could not take the child to hospital as she could not afford the cost of treatment. Ahadi Trust Executive Director Stanley Kamau said they will facilitate the minor’s treatment and hit out local leaders for ignoring the plight of residents.
