Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson should not be put in charge of the national under-23 team, an official has said.

Western Kenya Sports Forum's executive director Bob Agwanda claimed Williamson is the wrong man of the job.

"It would have been better to get someone else for the job so that Williamson can concentrate on the senior team. Without that, there is a chance that the standards of both teams will go down tremendously," he said.

Agwanda pointed out that Williamson's failure to take Uganda Cranes to the Africa Cup of Nations when he was in charge also works against him being given both jobs.

He further challenged the local football leadership to aim at taking the country to the top ten on the continent instead of targeting a top-70 position.

"We should aim higher. A top 70 place in the Fifa rankings is not good enough especially because other countries are aiming higher," he said.

He further criticised the country's plans to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championships insisting that this is not the solution to turning around the dwindling standards.

"The best thing to do would have been to first focus on raising our fallen standards. This is the priority. If we don't do this, there is a possibility that our national team will be a disgrace to the country.

"We cannot accept losing to countries like Lesotho. It shows how low our standards have gone," he said.
