KWS to establish new station in Kerio Valley, says Director General

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced plans to construct a station worth millions in Kerio Valley region to strengthen wildlife surveillance for its protection.

William Kiprono, the Director General KWS said the initiative will reduce poaching, which has become a big threat in game reserves.

Kiprono added that residents have donated a piece of communal land for the setting up of the post and work will commence immediately.

"We are privileged to have the community allocate us two acres of land where we will establish the facility which will help game rangers in monitoring of the game reserves in the region," Kiprono said.

The Director said that the post is necessary in the region as it will help protect the elephants in Rimoi Game Reserve, which are the greatest target for poachers.
