Families of snake bite victims to get Sh40 million

Families of eight people in the area who died from snake bites early this year will receive Sh5 million each as compensation.

Speaking to the media in Mandera town, area Kenya Wildlife Service warden Adan Alio said the deaths occurred after the new 2014 Wildlife Conservation Compensation Act came into force in January, 2014.

“Injury cases are rather tricky, they must be investigated thoroughly before compensation is done. People who sustained injuries from wild animals must wait as experts from relevant fields are consulted,” he said.

The warden said following the 2014 Wildlife Act, for permanent injuries, victims are entitled to Sh3 million up from Sh50,000 before the law.
