Arrest warrant for senior lawyer Gichuki King'ara who fails to appear in court

A Nairobi court has issued a warrant of arrest for a senior lawyer for failing to appear in court to answer to charges of offensive conduct against him.

Principal Magistrate Meresia Opondo issued the arrest order against lawyer Peter Gichuki King'ara who lost the Othaya parliamentary election to MP Mary Wambui after he failed to attend court for plea-taking in respect of criminal charges against him.

Mr King'ara, who is out on police cash bail of Sh100,000, was supposed to appear in court yesterday morning to plead to the charges against him.

The lawyer is accused of using insulting words against Sollo Spear Nzuki, a senior clerk at Miller and Company Advocates, on October 16, 2014.

The incident is said to have taken place at the Milimani Commercial Courts and the lawyer is accused of insinuating that Mr Nzuki had an affair with Ms Wambui's advocate.

It is alleged that King'ara uttered the words to the complainant outside the court where they had gone for hearing of another civil case.

PHONE COVERS

Meanwhile, two people who allegedly robbed and shot dead a businessman in Eastleigh estate have been arraigned.

Edward Kanyingi Mwangi and Fredrick Mwangi Njeri, who appeared before Resident Magistrate Daniel Ochenja yesterday, denied the charges.

The court heard that on October 19, 2014, in Eastleigh, the two robbed Abdalla Mohammed Ahmed of 100 mobile phone covers and Sh1 million.

It is also alleged that the accused, who were armed with pistols, shot and killed another person identified as Richard Mutungi Yulu.

Their lawyer Chacha Mwita, however, refuted claims that two were armed at the time of their arrest.

The prosecution applied for more time to complete investigations, claiming that three more suspects linked to the robbery were still at large.

Mr Ochenja ordered that the two be remanded until October 30.
