Dutch woman fights for custody of boy from mother

Nakuru; Kenya: A Dutch woman has moved to court to fight for the custody of a three-year-old boy from his biological mother.

Miriam Winkel told Nakuru High Court judge Abigail Mshila there exists an agreement between her and Ramiti Lemulungo, the boy's mother, for adoption.

Ms Winkel claimed the boy's father, John Lolkile, 25, was her husband and they settled for the adoption after she realised she was barren. Winkel has sued Ms Lemulongo and Mr Lolkile, now her estranged husband.

She accuses Lolkile of moving to the Children's Court in Maralal, Samburu County, to gain custody despite an divorce case at the Nakuru High Court, which had granted her custody.

The 47-year-old woman told Justice Mshila that Lolkile has since married Lemulongo in a customary wedding and sired other children.

Winkel wants the court to reverse the decision by the Samburu court that gave interim custody of the boy to Ramiti, arguing that since the boy was taken away from her, he had stopped going to school.

Mshila directed that all parties appear before her on December 11.
