Man accused of killing three-year-olddaughter and dumping her in pit latrine

Nakuru, Kenya: A man is accused of  killing her three-year-old daughter and dumping her remains inside a pit latrine, a Nakuru court has heard.

Francis Kariko Kimani allegedly struck her daughter Mary Wanjiku with a blunt object in August 13, 2010 in Engachura, Bahati, Nakuru county according to a post morterm report presented in court on Wednesday by a government medic.

Dr Titus Ngulungu in his testimony before high court judge Anyara Emukule said that the post morterm report conducted on the body revealed the deceased had succumbed to severe head injuries that had been occasioned by a fatal strike from a blunt object.

Ngulungu further ruled out the possibility of the girl having fallen inside the pit latrine stating that were that the case, injuries to other parts of the body could also have been noticed and not the head alone as was alleged by the accused's lawyer Olaly Cheche.

"As you can see in this report, the head was the only part that had injuries and the brain was missing as a result of serious fractures to the skull," he said

A police officer who also testified in the case told court that they drove to the said place after a report had been made to them that a body of a young girl had been found inside a pit latrine.

Police constable Abdul Juma Hussein recounted how the body which had allegedly been inside the latrine for about two weeks had been found by neighbors who complained of a strong stench emanating from the accused's compound.

"We were told that the accused stayed with the deceased after allegedly falling out with his wife and at one time both of them disappeared from the village only for the deceased body to be found inside the latrine," he said.

The body was later taken to rift valley provincial general hospital Nakuru where the post-morterm tests were conducted.

Hussein further stated that the accused who was later traced to Runyenjes never reported that her daughter was missing prompting them to believe that he was behind the beastly act of killing her.

"When we interrogated the accused after bringing him to Bahati police station from Runyenjes he never responded to any question that we asked him,he remained mum throughout," he said.

The case was adjourned to October 30 when the accused will make a sworn statement.
