Association of National Olympic Committees wants Rudisha to collect award in Bangkok

800m World record holder David Rudisha

Olympic 800m champion and world record holder David Rudisha has only this week to confirm availability or miss a major global award in Bangkok.

Rudisha, who broke the world record on his way to winning the Olympic gold medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London, is set to receive an award at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at their Congress in Bangkok on November 7.

“Anoc wants to award him for his exemplary performance in London Games, but we cannot trace him. I spoke to his coach (Bro Colm O’Connell) today morning, but he said he does not know where he is,” FK Paul, Secretary General of National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) said yesterday.

“We are sending an appeal to Rudisha to respond to our invite before Anoc makes a decision,” he said. An email from Anoc Secretary General, Lindberg Gunilla to NOCK said Rudisha has this week only to confirm or they give the award to somebody else “which we don’t want to do”.
