Senate set to decide Makueni governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana's fate

The Makueni County Assembly has handed the Senate documents to set in motion the impeachment of Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana.

Speaker Stephen Ngelu, confirmed the papers were yesterday taken to the Senate.

“We had to move with speed to ensure the documents were delivered to the Senate after we learned that there was a plan by the governors' team to move to court yesterday morning to block the delivery,” he told 'The Standard on Saturday' on telephone.
He dismissed the ongoing collection of signatures to have the government dissolved ass an effort in futility, saying he had a huge dossier implicating the governor with massive graft.

Meanwhile, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has expressed disappointment at the impeachment of Makueni County Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana.
“I am deeply disappointed with what happened in Makueni,” Kalonzo told 'The Standard on Saturday' from South Africa.
The former Vice President, who had earlier said he was doing his best to reconcile the governor and Members of the County Assembly, could not immediately comment on the matter and promised to do so later.
A section of the MCAs on Thursday voted to impeach the governor, whose fate now lies in the hands of the Senate.

Yesterday, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo asked the governor’s side to stop blaming the Wiper leader for the impeachment. He said the best option to resolved the impasse was reconciliation, “but we now have to wait for the Senate to decide the matter”.

Wiper’s East Africa Legislative Assembly member Peter Mathuki said it was unfortunate such a situation had taken place in Makueni County, which had been stable.
He said efforts by the party to reconcile the warring parties failed because of “suspicion” between the two groups.
When told of the governor’s impeachment, Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao simply said it was “so sad.”
