Student campaign urges people to urinate in the shower, you'll never guess why

Australia: Some people recycle, others walk and some make sure they always turn the lights off - but two students have come come up with a novel campaign to save the environment.

Green-minded Debs Torr and Chris Dobson are encouraging people to urinate in the shower.

They that say doing that instead of using the toilet would save 12 litres of water used in every flush.

The duo claim that it every British student followed their 'Go With The Flow' advice, it would result in a saving of £125,000.

Debs and Chris, both 20, came up with their idea as part of an environmental initiative at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

Chris said: "We've done the maths, and this project stands to have a phenomenal impact.

"With 15,000 students at UEA, over a year we would save enough water to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool 26 times over.

"Imagine how big an impact it could have if we could get everyone in East Anglia, or even the UK, to change their morning habits!

"The trouble is, most people don't realise that we use fresh water much faster than it can be naturally replenished."

And any germaphobes who want to get involved, need not fear as the pair have consulted one of their professors who said urinating in the shower is hygienic.

Chris, an American Studies and Politics student from Kettering, Northants., said: "As long as the water is flowing when you have a wee then there shouldn't be a problem."

The potential savings were worked out based on the water for an average flush costing 2p.

That works out at about £7.30 per year for every person if they were to save one flush each day.
