Man handed 18 months in jail for assaulting mother

Nakuru, Kenya: A man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for assaulting his mother after he was asked to move out of their home and start his own family. Allan Gakuru pleaded guilty to the charges before Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo.

The court heard that Gakuru used a blunt object to hit his mother, Rebecca Njoki, on the head resulting in serious injuries. The mother had asked him to marry and start his own family.

Ms Njoki was rescued by neighbours and rushed to Bahati District Hospital where she received treatment. Njoki told the court that her son was frustrated following a fruitless search for a woman to marry. In mitigation, Gakuru accused his mother of frustrating him and being judgmental.
