West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin warns against social media use

West Pokot, Kenya: Civil servants and youth posting derogatory remarks about the West Pokot county government on social media risk prosecution, Governor Simon Kachapin has said.

Kachapin who spoke yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony of the County Lands Management Board members said people are misusing social media.

“It is very dangerous that youths are spending most of their time on facebook. Psychologists have also warned on this citing that it is as addictive as hard drugs and people should understand this,” he said.

The county boss said he was aware that civil servants were posting derogatory statements about the government on social media. 

Meanwhile, the governor challenged top officials in the Ministry of Lands and the National Lands Commission to Lands (NLC) to reconcile to bost service delivery.

He said the constant conflicts witnessed between Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu and NLC chairman Mohammad Swazuri could affect operations of newly constituted county lands management boards. Kachapin asked the board members to expedite land issues to ensure land owners in the county get title deeds.
