ODM dismisses Commissioner Marwa's claim linking it to Likoni killings

NAIROBI, KENYA: Orange Democratic Movement has dismissed remarks by Mombasa County Commissioner linking the party to recent violence in Likoni, Mombasa.

On Friday, Commissioner Marwa linked the attacks in Likoni, Mombasa where gunmen shot dead four people to ODM activities.

He claimed that the party was using youth from Masjid Musa to cause havoc in the county. “ODM Mombasa politicians raised about Sh10 million to bail part of the group arrested in the Mosque early this year,” claimed Marwa.

In a quick rejoinder, Nyongo termed the remarks as unfortunate linking it to a pattern by Jubilee on blaming CORD about deteriorating security levels in th country.

“The outburst by the so-called County Commissioner in Mombasa Mr. Nelson Marwa associating the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) with terrorism is nothing new,” said ODM Secretary General Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o.

“It falls within the pattern of innuendos, slander and disinformation about the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) that Jubilee has engaged in consistently to divert attention from their incompetence in dealing with insecurity in the country,“ he said.

Reacting to Marwa's Friday claims Nyatike MP Omondi  Anyanga said as a civil servant, Mr Marwa should not make statements with political undertones.

“Marwa should stick to his administrative roles. Such matters are very sensitive and require water tight investigations. In any case, only Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko should make such statements,” Anyanga said.

He appealed to the government to post another County Commissioner to Coast, saying Mr Marwa had failed to deliver.
"Marwa has failed to solve the insecurity puzzle in Mombasa and its time to replace him," he said.
