Four Members of Nyeri County Assembly involved in a fight at the assembly on Tuesday have been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in relation to the incidents.

The four MCAs; Githaiga Njoroge (Rugi), Hudson Gicheru (Mukurwe-ini Central), Paul Ngiria (Chinga) and Stephen Mwaniki (Dedan Kimathi) were escorted by their colleagues to the EACC offices in Nyeri town to record statements.

By the time The Standard on Saturday arrived at the offices some few minutes to 11am, three of the MCAs had already reported to the EACC, except Gicheru. Speaking to journalists, EACC Regional Director Jackson Mue said they summoned the MCAs following complaints by the public over their brawl.

“The MCAs have been accused of violating Chapter Six of the Constitution in regards to their integrity and leadership,” Mr Mue said. He said they are investigating whether the MCAscommitted any of the offences under the chapter.

Kiganjo Ward MCA Baragu Mutahi who is fronting a motion to impeach Governor Nderitu Gachagua said the move to summon members was a ploy to intimidate them to drop the motion.

“We are in solidarity with our colleagues after realising that security officers in Nyeri are leaning towards one side of the political divide in recent wrangles that have rocked the county,” Mr Mutahi said.
