Kalonzo Musyoka asks Uhuru to join push to reform IEBC

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has asked President Uhuru Kenyata to support the push to force electoral commissioners to vacate office.

Kalonzo said although the Constitution is clear the President has no powers to remove the commissioners, he can join the growing number of dissatisfied Kenyans who want a new commission in place to prepare for a free and fair election in 2017.

The Wiper leader said the country cannot afford another stolen election and thus their resolve to have the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission kicked out, claiming the team is not fit to conduct a fair and free election.

"No one asked Uhuru to sack the commissioners because that is not his responsibility but he can add his voice if he cares for this country that we cannot afford to have another stolen election, Kenyans will not accept," said Kalonzo.

Speaking yesterday at Kaningo Secondary School in Mwingi North constituency during a fund-raiser, Kalonzo confirmed CORD will march to the IEBC offices on May 9.

On Uhuru's visit to the Ukambani region, Kalonzo said he will be there to welcome him to the region, adding that development is a people's right under the new Constitution but not a privilege.

Kalonzo said the commissioning of the Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui road was long overdue and its commencement will serve as a relief after a five-year "artificial" delay by the Jubilee regime.

"I commissioned this very important road as the vice-president in 2012. We took the contractor to the ground and the Treasury had assured that work was to start in two months," said Kalonzo

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe said the community's resolve and commitment to support the Wiper leader was solid, saying those who visited State House last week week served their own selfish interests.

Malombe said Kalonzo is the best-suited candidate for the presidency in 2017 because he had what it takes to transform this country.

Kitui East MP Mercus Muluvi said Wiper will not accommodate rebels during party nominations.

"Wiper will conduct free and fair nominations and we ask those who will lose to stick with the party," he said.
