With majority of young people educated and aware of their needs in society, there has been a clamor that old and aging leaders should step aside. They should shoulder the leadership to the younger generation.
But there are many questions in my mind. I am not a sycophant of old leadership or a diehard of the younger generation but whether the younger generation indeed can bring the anticipated change or not.
It is also worth noting that a noticeable number of youths have joined the bandwagon and hold various political positions in leadership. For instance in the national assembly, county government and the senate.
A few have showed true leadership but some have been each day trending on media not because they are on developmental projects but doing funny and amusing political acrobats in various places.
Many are left shocked with the younger generation and if in real sense they can be managers of the society. Many crusaders of this new revolution are of the view that the old and conservative should leave office and pave way for the younger and energetic younger generation.
We are living in a dynamic world where change is inevitable as such every society must embrace it fully. However with young leaders who are the cream of the society and just as the old, have failed to provide what the general public need. So is the society ready to leave leadership under the care of youths?
In most cases young people have been on the forefront of solving chaos and feud with violence. They will barricade highways and engage in running battles with police. For them their voice can only be heard by causing mayhem. They tend to forget that there is always another alternative and most appropriate way.
It’s so sad to note that majority of young people have been exploited for ages as they crave for better lives and self-centered goals. They will be hired to commit crime, destroy property and even kill for money. Then how will they behave when they are the ruling elite?
Even those purporting to be youths, in real sense they are not. They will do so as a ploy to woo youths to help them ascend to power and later on forget them. To this end it dawns to me that younger people have a long way to go before they will be ready to lead from their predecessors.
