Belgian based duo of Johanna Omolo and Ayub Timbe have urged their Harambee Stars teammates not to get carried away by Wednesday’s 5-2 first leg humiliation of Mauritius ahead of tomorrow’s return leg tie of the 2018 World Cup pre-qualifier at the Kasarani Stadium.

Omolo, who plays for Royal Antwerp, produced a man of the match performance scoring a brace and setting up Michael Olunga for the fifth goal while his Genk counterpart scored Kenya’s second goal through an expertly curled corner kick.

The winner on aggregate of the two-legged clash will meet Cape Verde in the next round of the competition with the victors booking a ticket to the group stage.

Despite holding a huge advantage ahead of the return leg, the pair has called on their teammates to remain focused and ensure they qualify for the second round.

“I feel good because we won the first leg and not that I scored a brace. We performed well as a team. We are not yet through, we are taking one game at a time, so we must play on Sunday and see what’s next,” Omolo said.

Timbe, who is on loan at Belgian second tier side Lierse, said their plan was not to underrate the Les Dodos and it paid off.

“As players we had agreed to give 100 per cent and not to underrate our opponents and that same mentality should be applied on Sunday because in the modern football there is no a big or small team,” said Timbe.

Asked what’s the secret behind his recent impressive national team form and if he will be going back to his parent club Genk after loan expiry, the Ligi Ndogo Academy graduate said:

“I am just trying to give my best to my country. Whenever I am on the pitch, I know I am representing many Kenyans and I think delivering results is the only thing I can do for this great nation. I am ever calm and concentrated on the pitch.

“Genk is my home and I can go back there whenever I want. But I pleased with my loan spell at Lierse because of the more playing time I am getting,” added Timbe.

Although Mauritius must score four unanswered goals for them to qualify, assistant coach Joe Tshupula whose 28-man team travelled together with Kenya on Thursday, has warned their hosts against pre-mature celebrations.

“Of course it will be a tough match but what we want is a positive result,” he said.
