Three people killed in road accident along Salgaa stretch

Nakuru, Kenya: Three close relatives of a lawyer who drowned in a Mombasa hotel swimming pool, Geoffrey Oriaro, died in a road accident Wednesday morning at Salgaa, along the Nakuru-Eldoret road. Rift Valley Regional Traffic Commandant Mary Omari said the accident involved a saloon car and a bus.

Patrick Ochieng and his wife Rose Akoth died on the spot while their two-year-old niece, who was travelling in the same car, died on arrival at the Rift Valley Provincial Hospital.

Ms Omari said the car was heading to Nairobi from Eldoret while the bus was heading to Eldoret from Nakuru when they collided head-on.

“The driver of the car was overtaking when he hit the bus,” said Omari.

Omari said police are yet to establish whether the three victims are members of the lawyer’s family.

Oriaro’s main practice is in Nairobi and he recently spearheaded a petition in the National Assembly that led to the removal of two Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission commissioners.
