ELDORET: Leaders in the North Rift have cautioned Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto against disrespecting Deputy President William Ruto.

They told Governor Ruto to respect the deputy president due to the task the latter was was given by the electorate along with President Uhuru Kenyatta of leading the country.

The governor on Saturday threatened to forcefully end a meeting in Bomet attended by the DP after he was heckled by part of the crowd.

"If you do not keep quiet, the meeting will end, nobody should threaten us," said Ruto in a fundraiser meeting attended by the DP among a host of other leaders.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen lashed out at the governor saying he should instead support the two principals in ensuring the citizens get the intended services.

"When you have not been elected by the public to hold the highest office like that of the DP, it is prudent enough to respect those above you instead of engaging in supremacy brawls, which will not help in developmental agenda," he said.

He made reference to Bible figures saying the governor should accept to be led if he really wants to hold a high office in future.

"Elisha in the Bible agreed to follow the steps of his friend and superior Elijah and he was later known as the powerful man in the history, why would Ruto want to engage in political brawls?" he asked.

Nandi Hills MP Alfed Keter maintained that the leaders should desist from trading accusations in public but instead put much focus on chatting the way forward on how the cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC) can be terminated.

He said it was time for the leadership to rally behind both the DP and journalist Joshua Sang in ensuring that the case comes to a close.

"I am amazed by the current exchanges by leaders, which does not impact on anything. It is appropriate that we now become united and pray for our two sons that their case is brought to an end," he said.

Governor Jackson Mandago called on leaders from the Rift Valley to work along with the DP as he serves the interests of the public.

"Instead of engaging in heated debates, we should remain united and give the DP a chance to work alongside the President," he said.
