Mukuru gets state of the art maternity unit

NAIROBI: Mukuru kwa Njenga health centre now has a maternity unit.

The new Sh20 million state-of-the-art maternity wing that was unveiled by Governor Evans Kidero is the only one of its kind in the area and offers maternity and general health care services.

The establishment of the new unit is part of a renovation project that has also seen the construction of a laboratory, antenatal, delivery and postnatal wards as well as the acquisition of new equipment at the centre.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the renovated facilityr, Dr Kidero said the bulk of equipment has been provided by United Nations Children's Fund.

"Healthy families make healthy communities. So delivering care and support for the whole family is essential to our mission as Nairobi City County government. It is part of our unwavering commitment to patient-centered healthcare. I am excited that Mukuru Kwa Njenga health center is broadening its care provision for women and children," Kidero said.

The health centre that is run by two clinical officers and 11 nurses will also provide inpatient cantered care in a bid to improve the quality of services patients and their newborns get.

RECEPTION AREA

"Within the unit there are dedicated areas for family meetings with social services, hearing screenings, lactation services and neonatology prenatal consults. There is an expanded infant security system installed throughout the ground floor of the hospital and is secured with a centralised reception area and security check-point," said Bernard Muia, the county executive for health.
