Men rights organisation Maendeleo Ya Wanaume led by self-declared Chairman Nderitu Njoka could soon be facing competition from a parallel outfit being fronted by one Philemon Kipyegon aka Young Phill, a businessman and IT specialist. Kipyegon revealed that he is in the final stages forming another movement to defend men’s rights dubbed Okoa Wanaume Network.
He told The Nairobian that, “I am not against what Njoka is doing. Mine will focus more on areas where men are oppressed, including financial exploitation by women, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination in terms of employment and violence against men.”
Kipyegon revealed that the organisation will be marking its day on February 14 to coincide with Valentine’s Day “because this is one of the days in the calendar when men are financially exploited a lot.”
Njoka meanwhile said he was not opposed to the new development. “He is free to start anything as long as it is legal. People also need to know that I am not fighting women. Maendeleo ya Wanaume has come a long way.”
He emphasised that, “We were the first ones to pioneer things that other people had not thought about but Kipyegon has a right too, especially since we are pushing the same agenda.”
Maendeleo ya Wanaume was launched and registered in 2006 marks its day on November 11. Last year it called on men to boycott sex during the International Men’s Day. The organisation also fights for the rights of the boy child.
