When a child likes her new teacher

Child likes her teacher
When a child likes her new teacher

I have a feeling 2015 is going to be a good year. A good year, I say, because my daughter Tasha adores her new Class One teacher.

This is especially good news for me because last year, she hated her teacher and this reflected on the home front and her school performances.

She hated going to school and that meant that, on several occasions, she devised crafty ways to ensure   she did not report to school.

Her tactics ranged from hiding her uniform and school bags to faking non-existent illnesses.

Her dramas were on and off depending on how strongly the teacher had triggered the hate feelings. Don’t ask me what that means.

Anyway, that was last year. This year, the gods of education are smiling on us because baby girl has been hooked up with a teacher that she adores. Let’s call her teacher Gorreti. Gorreti and my daughter struck it off from the word go.

“Mum, I have the most beautiful teacher with the most beautiful heart. She also has a beautiful name. Gorreti,” that was baby girl’s opening remarks when she came back from school after reopening.

“OK. So tell me more about this madam Gorreti.” I prodded.

For some reason, it looks like teacher Gorreti has a soft spot for my Tasha. She made her the prefect, her errand girl and has given her a front seat in class.

“Mum, she wants me to help her with everything, I love it.” I know my Tasha loves to be the centre of attention and the teacher is offering her that oxygen to shine.

Thanks to that wonderful rapport my daughter and teacher Gorreti have formed, my daughter looks forward to school like a young girl looks forward to her first date.

“Mum please wake me up at 4am so that I can start preparing early to go to school. I need to go early so that I can clean the blackboard and teacher Gorreti’s desk,” that is how our conversations go like every evening.

For a mother, when a child likes his or her teacher, that is huge news because it means an easier time managing that child and her school-work. This means no dramas when doing her homework, no stress when it comes to waking up in the morning and no unnecessary absconding.

According to my analysis as a mother, when teacher-pupil relationship is good, even the child’s grades will improve significantly. Thanks to that bond that my daughter has formed with her class teacher, she takes her work very seriously because she does not want to annoy or disappoint the teacher.

From the way things are going, it looks like 2015 is going to be a fantastic year for Tasha and I.
