Livestock farmers demand extension agricultural services

Livestock farmers want agricultural extension officers sent to the area to assist them minimise losses resulting from animal deaths.

The farmers want the officers at the grassroots to help them ward off common pests and preventable animal diseases.

One of the farmers, Ameringole Yarang'o, claimed to have lost 23 cows so far to diseases transmitted by ticks.

Yarang'o said there was no single extension officer in the area.

"We really need services of extension officers for technical advice on livestock rearing. It is the only way the Government can demonstrate to us that it cares about our plight," he noted.
