Frank Lampard came off the bench to equalise for Manchester City against Chelsea, a club where he spent 13 years and became their record goal-scorer.
The 36-year-old was let go by Chelsea in the summer and snapped up on a short-term contract by Manuel Pellegrini, and he repaid the Chilean's faith by diverting James Milner's 85th minute cross past Thibaut Courtois in the Chelsea goal.
Andre Schurrle had earlier given Jose Mourinho's side the lead, after Pablo Zabaleta saw red for City for two bookable offences.
Lampard's celebrations were muted, and he admitted afterwards it left him with mixed emotions.
He said: "It's a really difficult one. I'd be unprofessional if I came on and didn't do my job, so I'm mixed with it.
"I'm obviously pleased that the side I came on for got a draw. It's come up, I'm a professional and I didn't expect to come on and score. I'm stuck in the middle.
"The Chelsea fans were singing my name and it was an emotional day. It's not how I expected to say goodbye to the Chelsea fans. I woke up this morning and didn't know what I wanted from today so I'm glad it's out of the way. I guess that's a happy medium."
