Man storms Nyeri police station, bites officer's finger

Counties

A hilarious spectacle unfolded at a police station in Nyeri County, after a drunken man stormed its reception and threatened to influence the transfer of all the station’s officers to either Garisa or Moyale.

The 37-year-old father of two, with a half-full bottle of Guinness beer firmly clutched in his hand, went on to boast about how closely he is related to the First Family.

“You just don’t know who you are messing with! I am a cousin to the President! Mwaathaaka na ni? ng?m?buutithia m?r? othe kana nd?m?thaamie muume g?k? (If you joke with me, I’ll ensure you are all sacked or transferred)!” he ranted.

He then proceeded to the counter at the reporting bay and produced a pristine Sh50 note which he tore into two with his teeth before one police constable managed to snatch it from his mouth.

Incoherent speech

“I have a storehouse full of money at home. My daily headache is how to spend it,” he raved, as he declared that he feared no one else, besides God.

His somewhat incoherent speech attracted the attention of several police officers who arrived at the scene to find out what was going on.

When two officers tried to apprehend him, he violently resisted the arrest and let out a torrent of insults.

“Na m?ting?conoka m?g??tia mahaki kuuma k?r? Akenya ath??ni. Inyu? mw? m?kora (Shame on you for soliciting bribes from poor Kenyans. You are thieves),” was his vitriolic attack on the police.

Laughed gleefully

The police, however, overpowered him and managed to push him into the cells but just before they closed the door, he got hold of one of the officer’s shirt like a clamp and refused to let go.

As the officer tried to free himself, the man grabbed his right hand and bit his middle finger, almost cutting it off.

As the officer howled in pain, the man wore a smug mien and laughed gleefully, revealing blood on his teeth.

It took the intervention of three more officers to dislodge their colleague’s finger from the man’s mouth and lock him inside the cell.

Soon after he was locked up, he threatened to beat other prisoners and started kicking repeatedly at the cell’s door.

Non-custodial sentence

“Leo mtajua mimi ni nani, huwa tu mnanisikia (Today you’ll know who I am, you just hear about me!” he shouted.

The officers, who had had enough of him, stormed the cell and cuffed him.

He was later arraigned before a Nyeri court and charged with being drunk and disorderly, and causing bodily harm to a police officer.

In his defense, he claimed to have no recollection of what had transpired at the police station.

“Prior to my arrest, I had stayed without drinking for more than a year. I was unlucky to be arrested on the very same day I resolved to ease my stress with a little liquor,” he told the court.

The man is currently serving a 12-month non-custodial sentence.
