Vision 2030 boss wants State to hire competent public servants

Kenya: Good governance will lead to cutting costs in both national and county government levels thereby delivering actual benefits to Kenyans. Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Director General Gituro Wainaina said Kenya needs the support of all professionals to help reduce the ballooning wage bill and cut costs. 

“Professionals are able to help Kenya build strong and trustworthy institutions hence build more effective and transparent government institutions,” Gituro told members and stakeholders.

This was during the Certified Institute of Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) 21st annual dinner in Nairobi. Gituro observed that most negative issues emerge from poor governance, unprofessionalism and lack of integrity. According to Gituro, the State should secure different stakeholders by buying in their support, which is very important if Kenya wants to achieve vision 2030.

 “The State did not consult stakeholders during the tendering process of the Standard Gauge Railway, which made the project that would lead to development of transport infrastructure within the Northern Corridor fail,” he said.

Gituro urged the State to invest in innovative and competent public officers and thanked  Government for its efforts to make the governance open and more inclusive. ICPSK Chairperson Catherine Musakali said the association is partnering with the Government to establish a code of governance for Government owned entities.
