Ignore the tuition ban – Knut official

Kwale’s Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) want the Ministry of Education to lift the ban on holiday tuition.

Addressing journalists in Kwale on Tuesday, Kinango Knut branch executive secretary, Simeon Nyundo, said the region has been recording poor results in the national examinations with the main impediment being difficulties in covering the syllabus in good time.

“Plans should be put in place to ensure pupils from class six to eight remain in school for some weeks so that they can cover the syllabus as a way of improving performance at the national exams,” he said.

Nyundo said if the county decides to follow every directive given by education officials then the trend of poor performance will swell while schools from other counties, that continue with the holiday tuition, will continue to excel.

“Some of the leaders who say teachers should not conduct tuition have their children outside the country and so they are not affected. Let us open our eyes and teach our children,” he said.
