“When fully implemented, the Sports Act will facilitate the proper management of our sports federations, facilities and events.  Moreover, it lays the foundation for the blossoming of our youth sports development programmes,” he said.

The Head of State said there is tremendous potential for excellent performance by Kenya’s sports men

will ensure good management of sports resources are put in place.

He congratulated the athletes for their achievements saying they have brought great pride and
joy to all Kenyans.

President Kibaki also recognized the Kenya Sevens team for their outstanding performance in the ongoing World Sevens series.

“I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you finish in the best position ever.  You are a very talented lot and I have confidence that you will succeed in the World Series and the World Cup,” he said.

The President called upon various sports federations to set up youth academies that will identify, develop, promote and manage our young people with sporting abilities.

“Sports have the potential to be a major employer in our country and to contribute to the growth of our economy.  I therefore urge the private sector to partner with the Government to ensure that adequate resources are availed for this cause, he said.
