Bungoma,Kenya- Police in Bungoma County have exposed a vehicle theft syndicate and arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer.

The man had tried to dupe a Webuye resident to surrender the keys of an “impounded” vehicle before his plans were cut short by police.

Bungoma East DCIO Zachary Kariuki said the man had promised to lead his victim to a “senior police officer” within Bungoma town to seal the deal.

However, his accomplice who had been introducing himself to his victims as the Bungoma South DCIO went underground after seemingly getting wind of the operation.

“We are still in pursuit of him and we already have important leads that may eventually lead to his arrest,” said Kariuki.

He said the suspect would be arraigned in court to answer to charges of carjacking, impersonating police officers and others.
