Coalition for Reforms and Democracy governors to attend Summit in US

Former Kenya’s Prime Minister, Raila Odinga is set to lead a powerful team of recently elected CORD governors to a Bi-National Kenyan Governors Summit to be held in Dallas, Texas later this week. 

The summit, whose theme is “Strategic Vision for Good Governance” is being organized by the Network for Development of Youth in partnership with Summers Dodge International Group and it take place at the Irving Convention Center, 500 West Las Colinas Boulevard, Irving, Texas 75039 in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area of. It will run between July 27-28 2013. 

Briefing the press from Dallas, Texas, Sam Osamba, one of the organisers said the objectives of the summit were among other; introduce to the newly elected governors best practices techniques in handling challenges in devolved governments, learn best practices, concepts and tools for Public Finance Management, Legal and Institutional framework conducive for Foreign Direct Investment and Economic development through domestic and foreign capital flows.

Others are; explore existing opportunities for mutual collaboration in different fields between the US and Kenya, sources of infrastructure development financing, practical tools of Public Administration and Policy formulation for more effective public service for a devolved government. 

The Governors invited include Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma, Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong', Kajiado governor David Nkendienye and Siaya governor, Cornel Rasanga.

Others are Nyamira governor John Nyang’arama, Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Simiyu Khaemba, Turkana governor Joseph Nanok, Kisii governor James Ongwae, Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti and Kwale governor Salim Mvuria. 

Mr. Osamba disclosed that Mr. Odinga and the 12 invited governors are scheduled to meet with Kenyans living in the US in a Town Hall kind of set up on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 5pm at the Irving Convention Center, 500 West Las Colinas Boulevard, Irving, Texas 75039. 

The issues to be discussed will be around the Economy, Governance, Security, Infrastructure, Healthcare and ICT.
