Woman arrested for stealing a baby

Police in Homa Bay have arrested a 28 year old woman for allegedly stealing a six month old baby girl.

The woman is accused of stealing the baby at Ndiru Village in in Rangwe Sub County last Friday.

 She allegedly stole the baby identified as Sharon Achieng’.

According to the child’s mother Christine Achieng’, the woman stole her baby during a tournament at Ndiru Secondary School.

The woman allegedly lured Christine with tea to enable her to steal the child.

She reportedly volunteered to buy Christine a cup of tea in a nearby food kiosk. 

On their way to the kiosk, she decided to carry the child on Christine’s behalf.

When Christine began taking tea, the woman walked out with the baby, pretending that she was going to buy airtime in a nearby shop.

But she ended up disappearing with her. Christine waited and looked for her but she could not be seen.

On Wednesday, the woman was arrested at Ngegu village,West Kochia Location in Rangwe sub county.

Homa Bay sub county Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer Joseph Tuksho confirmed the arrest.

Tuksho said they had been conducting investigations which led to arrest of the woman.

 “The child’s parents reported the matter to  Homa Bay police station. We have managed to trace the suspect and got hold of her,” Tuksho said.

Tuksho said suspect was found in possession of the child during the arrest.

The suspect was taken to Homa Bay police station where she was awaiting to be arraigned in court.

The bay was handed back to her parents.
