An assistant chief who allegedly defiled his 13-year-old niece is a free man despite medical reports indicating the girl was abused.

This is in addition to the fact that the girl’s aunt had reported the matter at Malava Police Station.

The man is said to have committed the dishonourable act after his wife left the girl under his care to attend a funeral in Uganda.

The girl told The Standard that the suspect had threatened to kill her if she revealed the crime.

“He dragged me to bed, removed my clothes and raped me repeatedly. He then warned me not to disclose to anybody as he would beat me to death. I was very frightened and the only option I was left with was to write a letter to my aunt,” she explained.

The aunt has been taking care of her since she was four years as her parents are poor.

“The suspect is my husband, and due to the shameful act he did to my niece, I have decided to part ways with him. He defiled the girl who is like a daughter to me while I was in Uganda for a funeral,” she said.

But the suspect has denied the allegations, saying his wife and the child want to defame him because they had separated. Medical reports from Malava sub-county hospital show that the girl was indeed defiled.
