Raila full response to AG Muigai on treason charges if he is sworn-in

National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday 19 November responded to Attorney General Githu Muigai’s remarks when he said that he (Raila) would be charged with treason if he went ahead with plans to be sworn-in as president of Kenya.

"I reiterate any attempts to swear in any person as president other than the one elected in line with the constitution and in a manner provided for in the law is unlawful, illegal null and void ab initio," the AG had earlier warned.

During his speech at the burial, Raila Odinga told AG Muigai that they are not afraid of dying for the sake of Kenya.

“I want to answer Prof Muigai and his bosses today that we are not afraid of dying for the sake of this country… His repeated threats to open treason charges against us will not stop us from our planned swearing-in,” said Raila.

"They should stop trying to intimidate me about treason. I am ready to be sworn in and die. We will be sworn in na wafanye vile wanataka kufanya (let them do whatever they want)… Kenyans want electoral justice, a reformed police service which doesn’t use brutal force, an independent Judiciary which cannot be intimidated by the ex-executive, and strengthened devolution," he added.

Raila also went ahead and maintained that he won the elections since the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission refused to allow access to the servers.

“IEBC are still in contempt of the Supreme Court ruling that annulled the presidential elections, because they refused to allow access to the servers as ordered,” said Raila.
