Kenyans react after a seven-year-old boy was shot dead during NASA memorial

A seven-year-old-boy Geoffrey Mutinda was shot dead by a stray bullet on Tuesday 28 November in Pipeline estate Nairobi while playing at the balcony.

The incident happened when the police engaged National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters in running battles during the NASA memorial service at the Jacaranda grounds.

NASA leaders had planned to hold a memorial for the thirty seven people who perished during the recent riots the same time as President Uhuru Kenyatta swearing-in ceremony at the Kasarani Stadium.

However, the anti-riots police chased NASA supporters with teargas and shooting in the air in a bid to disperse those who were near the Jacaranda grounds.

The Opposition leader Raila Odinga while addressing his supporters along Manyanja Road, Eastlands announced that he would ‘sworn in’ on Jamhuri Day 12 December.

"I am not a coward, I will be sworn as president on Jamhuri Day, I am the legitimate president," said Mr Odinga.

Most Kenyans on social media did not take lightly the shooting of the seven-year-old boy. This is what most of them had to say;

A seven year old child woke up today, happy and carefree. Right now he's in the morgue, shot while playing on his balcony. It doesn't matter who you support. Geoffrey Mutinda is dead and there can be no justification.

Soo Sad. Only parents knows how Geoffrey Mutinda's parents are feeling. No parent would want to burry their child. RIP Geoffrey Mutinda.— Paul Gathuo (@PaulGathuo) November 29, 2017

Geoffrey Mutinda is dead.A 7 yrs old boy playing with fellow children killed by a police officer shooting aimlessly. God never leaves his people when things are at the crest of a mountain. That's the best time he comes to help.See us thru God as a Country #TrapaDrive #KTNPrime

The African leaders who attended the Uhuru Kenyatta #InaugrationKE are either dictators or leading failed states ~ 'Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are.' The killing of Geoffrey Mutinda & others by the police is evident of where Kenya is headed. #NASAMemorial— CHIPONDA MWAGONGO (@ChipondaHarris1) November 29, 2017

In a country already reeling from a more-than-months surge in bloodshed, the sudden loss of several innocent children to gun violence left many stunned & angry. Enough is enough Boinnet should resign! RIP Geoffrey Mutinda????

Geoffrey Mutinda wasn't in NASA rally but killed unforgivingly. Whoever shot this kid must be brought to justice. Normalizing injustices because it's in your enemy's side will be replicated to you too— Weldon Welan (@ItsWelan) November 29, 2017

Geoffrey Mutinda may you rest in peace. You dint deserve such a painful death. May God grant your parents peace &patience to overcome this trying time

— Ramla Abdi (@RamlaLulu) November 29, 2017

Policemen are killed and you see people are unsympathetic about it. Its because they are parents, sisters and brothers to Baby Pendo, Geoffrey Mutinda, Musando and tens of others.

Murdering babies n kids like baby Pendo n Geoffrey Mutinda is Muthamaki Uhuru's way of bringing Kenyans together. Let's meet on Jamuhuri day and kill us all to create peace! Kenya has reached the point of no return.— George Kivondo (@Kivondogeorge) November 28, 2017

Dear IG Boinett and your team, You will torture and kill us all and eventually have our dead bodies but not our loyalty and obedience to your so called president.#RIP Geoffrey Mutinda— sammy molla (@MollaSammy) November 29, 2017

Geoffrey Mutinda sadly died yesterday. A young boy who's future was suddenly darkened by a bullet. I grieve with the family and the most INHUMANE thing to do would be to poloticize his death but to address the problem with our Security system would in some way help.— James Njuguna (@james_njuguna5) November 29, 2017

R.I.P GEOFFREY MUTINDA
Is this regime thirsty for blood of kids?
They killed baby Pendo, Moraa, now Mutinda,
All these kids were killed by police in their houses,
How much blood do they still want?
Nobody is safe,
Speak now or else!#NASAMemorial#InaugurationKe
