This weekend Chebukati is firing Chiloba – ODM Director

Suna East Member of Parliament and also Orange Democratic Movement Director of Elections Junet Mohammed took to social media, saying Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati is planning to fire CEO Ezra Chiloba and other staff this weekend.

This statement comes with just five days left to the repeat presidential election.

According to the Daily Nation, Chiloba resorted to taking a three-week leave before, during and after repeat presidential poll for the purpose of building stakeholders’ confidence.

Roselyn Akombe, the latest IEBC Commissioner to quit her job had claimed that the commission had earlier asked the CEO to go on leave but he declined.

Chiloba himself said that he was not going to resign, even after countrywide demonstrations had started. He said that instead of resigning, he was focused on preparing the Commission for the October 26 poll.

Chiloba said, "I have work to do and I will stick around until that work is accomplished. I have a responsibility before me and I have to discharge that responsibility."

The National super Alliance (NASA) led by Raila Odinga made public their ‘irreducible minimums’, top of the list being removal of Chiloba from office. NASA claimed that Chiloba and other officials were involved in election malpractices, manipulating the August 8 poll in Uhuru Kenyatta’s favour.
