I will be on the ballot, Oparanya assures mourners

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has assured his supporters that his name will be on the ballot in the forthcoming August polls. The incumbent is facing competition from four challengers the closest being Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale according to recent opinion polls.

Speaking to mourners at Muroni Primary school in Mumias East Constituency during the send-off service for the former larger Mumias legislature Hon. Francis Obongita, Mr. Oparanya categorically said that the ongoing calls for his arrest by the Senate for snubbing its sermons is being fueled by his opponent whom he accused of using the Senate as a political tool rather than an oversight role institution.

In a clear swipe at Mumias East legislator, Ben Washiali, Oparanya dismissed allegations of corruption in his government. He reiterated his stance that those fighting him have lost political goodwill and are trying to lure voters with lies.

“I’m aware that someone is peddling lies against me so that he can gain political mileage, but let me assure you with confidence that I’ll be on the ballot and I’m prepared to send my opponents into retirement come August.” Said Governor Oparanya.

The county boss also defended his tenure stating that his performance record is unmatched and therefore he deserves another term to continue driving his development agenda.

The governor’s bid got a shot in the arm from Siaya Senator and senior counsel who affirmed to ecstatic ODM supporters that Oparanya will not be barred from the polls since there was no clear law to legally compel IEBC to strike his name from the ballot paper.

“I want to assure you, people of Kakamega, that you’ve the right person to represent your interests and therefore there is need to reelect him. Oparanya can’t be restrained by any institution from seeking reelection. I promise to stand with him until everything works in his favor.” Said the Senator amidst cheers.

Governor Oparanya later played host to NASA (National Super Alliance) chiefs Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and other local leaders at a Mega political rally in Mumias West.

The political outfit outlined among other issues the high cost of living, insecurity, and the revival of Mumias Sugar Company. The Coalition told voters to shun self-seeking politicians from the region who were drumming support for the Jubilee party.
