Why CS Mailu and PS Muraguri must resign

The Ministry of Health has been hit with many problems since last year under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu and his Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri.

The infamous Afya House scandal that reports suggest could have robbed the taxpayers over Sh5 billion was the beginning of those problems.

The money is said to have been inflated during the buying of mobile clinics; even now, there has been no conclusion on the matter and citizens are yet to know what really transpired.

Later, the doctors, nurses and clinical officers made good their threat to go on strike failing the implementation of contracts signed between them and the Government.

The doctors have been absent from work for more than two months and there are no signs of giving in even as their union officials were jailed for contempt of court.

To complicate matters, there are claims of bad blood between the two ministry heads. Cotu boss Francis Atwoli was mandated by the court to lead fresh negotiations to end the impasse but he claimed the two did not read from the same page hence frustrating the process.

During this entire time, citizens have been suffering due to the absence of doctors in hospitals, while the people mandated to ensure health services are available - Dr Mailu and Dr Muraguri - have been receiving their salaries.

Kenyans are tired of this whole thing and the President must come to their rescue by ensuring that competent people are appointed to handle affairs at Afya House.

The two have failed in their mandate and therefore have no business occupying Afya House.
