PHOTOS: Alvan Gatitu gifts watchman who helped him after landlord threw him out

Former TPF contestant and singer Alvan Gatitu has rewarded the watchman who helped him after he was thrown out by his landlord due to rent arrears.

After his emotional video went viral, Alvan, who received help from well-wishers, gifted the guard who gave him a place to sleep in the cold night.

In the video shared on Sunday, July 5, an emotional Alvan narrated how his landlord locked him out of the house at 5 am after failing to pay rent for a couple of months.

Recording the video in the dark and unable to go anywhere due to the curfew directive, Alvan starts by saying, “I’m standing outside here feeling very vulnerable.”

“The reason why I have taken time to record this one, is probably to encourage someone and allow myself to be real about the situation,” narrated Gatitu.

He said attempts to reach the landlord and the manager on the phone were futile. His two closest friends also couldn’t host him as they had issues of their own.

“I had thought another friend could help, but when I reached their gate, he told the guards not to open the gate for me. I explained to the guards, and they let me sleep at their place, so I laid some cartons and slept there,” says Gatitu.

After running out of options, Gatitu asked Wafula Kizito, the watchman, for a safer tree where he could sleep for the night.

Kizito, who was ordered not to let Alvan into the building, offered the singer a guard booth where he spent the night.

The next morning, Kizito went with Alvan to his house in Kawangware, where they had breakfast and later parted ways in the afternoon.

After Kenyans raised over 2million to help Alvan, the singer decided to ask Kizito for a way he could compensation him to show appreciation.

When Kizito said he wanted to have his own boda boda business, Alvan purchased a new motorbike for him and even helped his wife start a small business.

Alvan has since been grateful to all the Kenyans who came to his aid after his unfortunate incident.
