Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Wednesday opined that
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is being targeted by men.
Through a tweet, Ahmednasir suggested that society often
treats women badly and the embattled governor is a victim of the same.
“We treat WOMEN differently and BADLY...and Anne Waiguru is
obviously and always a victim of men's political malice...many
times...always...
“The process in the Senate is a secondary factor...and we
all know that...,” he wrote.
Last week, several leaders also claimed that Waiguru was
being targeted and they condemned what they termed as dislike for strong women
leadership.
Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia threw her weight
behind the governor saying the move was ill-informed.
“This is an indicator that some of us do not value strong
women leadership. We are disappointed that the Governor is being impeached
during the fight against COVID-19 which is negatively impacting on social
economic development of the country,” read the statement in part.
The CS was heavily criticized for her statement and was
bashed for misusing the gender card.
Waiguru’s impeachment has already stirred heated debate as
some have said the move is politically motivated.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, however,
disagrees with this saying the people of Kirinyaga deserve to be heard.
“Gov Waiguru deserves justice just like Kirinyaga
residents…What we needed is a committee that is not pre-determined…
“I feel the committee already has a decision- Anne Waiguru
has been cleaned and sanitized,” he said.
Last week, the Kirinyaga County Assembly voted to impeach
Waiguru with 23 ward representatives supporting the motion anchored on
violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct.
