Murkomen irked by CS Kobia’s defense of Waiguru

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kichumba Murkomen on Wednesday hit out at Public Service and Gender CS Prof Margaret Kobia who defended Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru following her impeachment.

Murkomen said the move was hypocritical, considering Kobia is one of the leaders who are meant to fight corruption.

“For you people to understand the magnitude of the hypocrisy that runs deep in country, this lady sits in the Cabinet and she is the appointee of the President who is “fighting” corruption and who is In charge of the Senate.

“Is as simple as that. Now you know what next,” wrote Murkomen.

In her statement, Kobia termed Waiguru’s impeachment as unfortunate, saying it is a move aimed at pulling down strong women.

“This is an indicator that some of us do not value strong women leadership. We are disappointed that the Governor is being impeached during the fight against COVID-19 which is negatively impacting on social economic development of the country,” read the statement in part.

Elsewhere, Homa Bay MP Gladys Wanga and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu also threw their weight behind Waiguru, assuring her that all will be well.

“As women leaders we take great exception with the purported impeachment of Gov @AnneWaiguru. This travesty flies in the face of the law given the court order stopping proceedings. In fact, @CSMutahi_Kagwe should quarantine MCAs who slept in a single room in violaton of COVID rules,” tweeted Wanga.

“The travesty visited upon Kirinyaga Gov. @AnneWaiguru is one of the many crooked ways that PhD machinations are using to pull her down and we strongly condemn it.

“My sister Anne, take heart, hold your head high and continue serving the people of Kirinyaga. You will be vindicated,” wrote Ngilu.

The Kirinyaga County Assembly voted to impeach Waiguru with 23 ward representatives supporting the motion anchored on violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct.

Four MCAs abstained and six of the 33 ward reps were absent.

The County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi announced the vote to remove Waiguru in the Tuesday session as dissenters were expelled from the House.

“I can confirm that the vote has met the two-thirds requirement to decide on this question,” he said.

The impeachment motion was tabled in the Assembly on March 31 by Mutira Ward Representative David Kinyua Wangui, who said he enjoyed the support of at least 24 MCAs in the 33-member legislature.
