Makau Mutua challenges Ruto to stand up and defend his people

Prof Makau Mutua on Wednesday challenged Deputy President William Ruto to stand up and defend his people.

Mutua referred to the troubles facing Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika saying it is time for Ruto to stamp his authority too.

“I am FLABBERGASTED that William Ruto’s foot soldiers like Murkomen and Kihika are being picked off one by one while he cowers under the bed in Karen.

“The man from Sugoi should stand up and defend his men and women. No general abandons his fighters,” said Mutua.

Further, he advised the two senators to accept and move on by quitting Jubilee and forming what he termed as a ‘monster opposition.’

“My counsel to Murkomen is simple — ACCEPT AND MOVE ON. You and Ruto must now QUIT Jubilee and form a MONSTER OPPOSITION.

“Otherwise you will be picked off like sitting ducks, one by one,” added Mutua.

Asked whether Murkomen was ousted because of his proximity to the DP, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said the senator was solely responsible for his actions.

“Kipchumba, unless he says he was working under the directives of the Deputy President, was relieved of his duties as Majority Leader based on his own actions.”

Adding: “I know we have numbers, we are the largest political party in parliament, we are the largest political party in the country. The perception that these numbers can be used against the President is what I completely disagree with.”
