Singer Bahati bashed for calling for a total lockdown

Gospel artiste Bahati on Wednesday got a bashing from Kenyans online after he requested the President for a lockdown.

Through a tweet, the singer asked the Head of State to declare a lockdown in the wake of the Coronavirus, something that did not go down well with a section of netizens.

Some educated him on the consequences of a total lockdown while others claimed he no longer related with the struggles of the poor.

“Dear Mr. President, we request for a lockdown, please do not let us die,” wrote Bahati.

Here are some of the reactions to his post:

Ben Kairu: Ungekua bado ghetto hungesema mambo ya lockdown. Hii ndio ubaya ya maskini akipata he begins to think everybody has the same privileges (uliza hapo kwa nyumba privileges ni nini) he has.

Ashnaam: Kwani usipolockiwa down huwezi kaa kwako????

Mwiti: If you ask Bahati what a lockdown is and its implications he would have no idea. He is an opinion maker in this country.

Japheth Muuo: This is not a kererembe & taniua affair or a comic show. This is a weighty matter that needs more deliberation & seriousness. Most Kenyans live on hand to mouth, most who subscribe to your average music, we need to consider them before a lock down.

Akinyi Abongo: It seems you have food donations. Lock down is not a problem but what are the measures put in place to prevent disaster especially for the majority who live on hand to mouth!

Stefan Adogo: Hii lock down watu wanataka it will end in tears, they will regret this move.

Jayden Ngugi: Buda wewe uko na 6 figure na ule mtu ako turkana hata maji ya kunywa Ni shida..... So nyamaza

On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that effective Friday, 27th March, 2020, a daily curfew from 7pm to 5am shall be in effect, with all movement by persons not authorized to do so or not being Medical Professionals, Health Workers, Critical and Essential Services Providers, being prohibited between those hours.

“Social Distancing is now our new norm, it is our new way of life. We reiterate that the most effective way to limit the spread of the virus is through basic changes in individual behaviour and hygiene.

“We have recently experienced cases within our country where transmission was from our political and religious leaders who unfortunately did not heed the guidance by the Ministry of Health on self-quarantine and social distancing,” said the President.
