Pwani Oil on Tuesday announced that it had reduced the
prices of some of its products by five percent.
The company stated that it had reduced the price of the Fresh
Fri Garlic brand of oil which they believe has nutrients that can help in
fighting viral infections.
The company’s Commercial Director Rajul Malde stated that
the move was aimed at encouraging consumers to embrace preventive measures.
“As a business that cares for the well-being of our
consumers, we are alive to the serious health challenge posed by the spread of
the coronavirus globally,” he said.
Adding: “Our decision to lower prices on some of our
products is informed by the need to encourage consumers to embrace preventive
measures against the disease including healthy nutrient intake and personal
hygiene.”
The prices of its soap products; Diva, Sawa and Detrex have
been reduced to encourage handwashing among Kenyans.
Last week, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe the Kenyan
lady who tested positive for Coronavirus had flown in from Ohio, USA, via
London to Nairobi.
The patient has been isolated at Mbagathi Hospital in
Nairobi since, including 27 others she had been in contact with.
"The government has taken preventative measures and is
monitoring the patient... who is stable," said CS Kagwe said on Friday.
The CS further asked people suffering from cough and sneeze
and those with difficulty in breathing to stay at home, as a preventive measure
to curb the spread of the disease.
Further, the government banned all public gatherings
including crusade and interschool events as it monitors the situation.
