SUMMARY

Timothy Koech was arrested at Chepngaina village in Bomet County after he posted that a terror group was planning to attack an institution of higher learning.

The DCI says that the suspect is in custody awaiting interrogation over offences of hoaxes contrary to Section 26 and Section 30 of Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a man for publishing alleged terror messages on Facebook.

Timothy Koech alias Joseph Langat was arrested at Chepngaina village in Bomet County after he posted that a terror group was planning to attack an institution of higher learning.

“Detectives based in Bomet have arrested one, Timothy Koech alias Joseph Langat at Chepngaina village for publishing alarming information on Facebook warning that members of a terror group were to attack an institution of higher learning,’ said the DCI.

The DCI says that the suspect is in custody awaiting interrogation over offences of hoaxes contrary to Section 26 and Section 30 of Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Section 26 states that, “A person who issues any information that a terrorist act has been or is likely to be committed, knowing that the information is false, commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a term twenty years.”

And section 30 states, “A person who knowingly possesses an article or any information held on behalf of a person for the use in instigating the commission of, preparing to commit or committing a terrorist act commits an offence, and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twenty years.”
