Five things you need to quit for a longer life expectancy

News

There are quite a few things you need to ditch in order to slow down your biological clock for longer life. Whether you are in your teenage phase, the 20s, 30s, or even all the way to the 70s and 80s, it is never too late to start living a healthy life. So, what are some of the things you should stop doing in the name of a long life span?

1. Smoking

NHIS states that tobacco is one of the most preventable death causes. If you quit smoking, your body will surprisingly forgive you by adjusting blood circulation and pressure. The risk of getting lung cancer will also reduce. Finally, your neighbors or family will also benefit in that they will no longer be exposed to the dangerous second-hand smoke.

2. Processed Foods consumption

For the past 20 or so years, people have moved to embrace processed foods with added sodium, more saturated fats, a lot of sugar, and less fiber. The practice has been linked with cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. Do your body a favor and start consuming dishes with more fiber and other ingredients that you will buy and prepare for yourself.

3. Adequate sleep

Did you know that the amount of sleep you get has a direct impact on your lifespan? It's not because a sleepy driver is at a higher risk of causing an accident. Studies show that sleeping less than six hours and more than nine hours puts you in a great health risk. Good sleep helps ward off depression, stress, and heart disease.

4. Holding a grudge

Anger is a fierce emotion that can be difficult to release, especially when you feel justified outrageously. The levels of stress hormone rise up during such times, negatively affecting your metabolism, heart, and even immune system, High cortisol is often associated with greater mortality rates.

5. Sitting still

A study concluded in 2011 in The Lancet found out that doing moderate-intense exercises for just 15 minutes every day helped the subjects involved live three additional years. This went up to 4 years for people achieving a 30 minutes threshold daily. Well, one of the moderate-intensity exercises listed was Brisk Walking!
