US supports BBI process

The United States of America supports the BBI process. This is according to Ambassador Kyle McCarter who stated that the voice of the people should be the outcome.

Speaking to the media in Siaya County earlier this week, McCarter noted that although he does not agree with everything in the document, it is a good step towards unifying the country.

“The United States supports the #BBI process. We want the conversation to take place.

“The voice of the people is what should be the outcome of #BBI,” said McCarter.

Ever since the document was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta, various leaders have weighed in on the matter with some openly criticizing it.

The Head of State has, however, maintained that Kenyans should first read the document before making a decision.

Last week, the President extended the term of the BBI taskforce, effectively ending speculation on who will steer the much-awaited public participation in January.

The taskforce will now be mandated with steering the next phase of the BBI process.

“This will largely involve expanding and guiding public participation, and structuring recommendations by Kenyans into implementable action plans,” State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said.

It is unclear how long the extension would be but according to the BBI report, the implementation should be within the next 18 months.

The BBI report was unveiled on November 27, 2019, with the hope it will herald a new Kenya that is free of divisive political hostilities.
