Gunmen shoot and injure two including policeman in robbery

Suspected gunmen shot and injured two people who included an off duty policeman in Nairobi’s Fedha estate.

The gang of three had stolen from a shop in the area and was escaping when they shot the victims on Monday night.

The first victim was a woman who was attacked and shot in the leg as she closed her businesses. The gang grabbed her bag and escaped on foot.

As the gang ran away from the scene of crime, they confronted a police officer who was walking to his house in the same area and shot him in the thigh unprovoked. Police say they are yet to know members of the gang and have launched a manhunt.

It is not clear if they knew the officer. Both the officer and the woman are admitted in hospital but stable condition.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo said they had dispatched a squad to look for the gang.

“We are on the ground to recover the weapon used and get those behind the crime,” he said.

Meanwhile, a suspected thug was shot dead at the Southern bypass in Nairobi in a botched robbery on the busy road. The man was among a gang that had been waylaying motorists and pedestrians at a stretch near Lenana School and robbed them of valuables.

The body was moved to the mortuary as police vowed to intensify patrols in the area. The area has been affected by such incidents in the past that saw many lose property and cash.

And a man was at the weekend arrested and more than 600 empty gas cylinders seized in a police operation in Syokimau area, Nairobi. The officers also seized two lorries that were carrying the cylinders of different brands and companies.

The cylinders are believed to have been set for refilling with counterfeit gas. Officials from Anti-Counterfeit Agency were present during the operation.
