Man rescued from drowning at Likoni ferry

A middle-aged man was saved from drowning at the Likoni ferry on Thursday morning 14 November.

According to Kenya ferry services, the man who is yet to be identified, was see running fast as he was going to board the Mv Jambo which was loading passengers at the time.

The management says the man seemed mentally ill as he ran straight and dived into the water but struggled to swim.

“This morning at around 0800 hrs an unidentified middle aged man who seem not to be in his right senses ran fast as if he was going to board Mv. Jambo which was at the time was loading passengers on the mainland side, went straight and dived into the water and started struggling to stay afloat, “said Kenya ferry.

Fortunately, the man was rescued by the emergency team and was administered first aid before they rushed him to the Coast General Hospital for further medical attention.

“Our rescue team using our emergency speed boat rushed to the scene and rescued him. He was given first aid and rushed by the Police to the Coast General Hospital for medical attention,” stated Kenya ferry.

A section on social media users praised the management for the prompt move to save the man and encouraged them to continue with the same response.

The incident comes days after a Kenyatta University bus almost drowned but was rescued and not casualties were reported.

Kenya Ferry stated that the driver of the bus failed to maintain a safety speed to ascend at the mainland causing the incident.

In September 29 this year, Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu died after their car slipped off and drowned at the Likoni ferry.

The car was retrieved 13 days after the incident and their bodies found still in an embraced position.
